Lonnie was born in Los Angeles, California. He was the eldest child. He had 3 half sisters and 1 half brother. He married his High School sweetheart Cindy Porter in 1963. They had a daughter, Kathy Bradford. He has 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He married Roxy Young, an actress, in 1990.
