Josh Safdie

Born and raised in New York City moving between parents in Manhattan & Queens. His career began making endless short films which soon led to branded work with the support of Andy Spade and Glenn O’brien. His first film, The Pleasure of Being Robbed, an experimental short turned feature financed by Spade, premiered as the closing night film at the Director’s Fortnight in 2008 as the only American film selected that year. He and his brother, Benny Safdie, returned to Cannes one year later with their first collaboration, Daddy Longlegs. They spent the next ten years developing Uncut Gems. During that time they directed the documentary Lenny Cooke, the docu-drama Heaven Knows What and Good Time. The brothers have both cited early experiences in front of their father's camera as the reasons for their pursing filmmaking. Josh returned to directing on his own with Marty Supreme, which he co-wrote and co-edited alongside frequent collaborator Ronald Bronstein. For his work on Marty Supreme, he received Academy Award nominations for Best Direction, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing and Best Picture.
